Canyon Gray sagebrush

Artemisia californica ‘Canyon Gray’

Description

Artemisia californica ‘Canyon Gray’ is a selection of native sagebrush that was taken from plants found growing on San Miguel Island. It has a very low and prostrate growth habit, 15-18 in. tall and a rambling nature to 8-10 ft. across. It provides a soft textured appearance and distinctive silvery foliage color for pleasing color contrast in many garden settings. Crushed leaves are highly pungent; flowers are insignificant.

The Canyon Gray sagebrush is best suited to sunny banks and slopes that provide good moisture drainage for best performance. Its low and sprawling habit enables it to drape over low walls, flow between boulders and cover large surfaces. It benefits from trimming in late fall to manage its size and leggy character.
